The fact that the new iMacs can't address more than 3Gb of memory and are therefore operating on a 32bit logic-board makes me doubtful as to whether or not these systems are really 64-bit capable... It seems like some kind of hybrid 32/64bit system.
Will the C2D iMacs be able to run 64bit code, despite not having the 64bit address space (and being able to access over 4Gb or RAM)?
I've searched for address bus width for the Core 2 line, but haven't found anything. It is, however, not likely that Intel downgraded the width from the previous models, which would mean either a 36 or a 40 bit bus. Also note that AMD's K8 (Athlon 64, Sempron and Opteron) also feature a 40 bit address bus and not 64 as someone might think. I also think that the G5 uses a 40 or 42 bit address bus, so it's pretty much the same there too.
So, if Core 2 has a 40 bit bus (which is likely) you end up with 1TB of addressable memory space.
Also, Core 2 CPUs are fully capable of running 64 bit code. Whether the address bus is 64 bits wide or not hasn't got anything to do with the width of the internal data path and execution unit width.

If there is a Special Event then we might see the new Ipod Video and maybe the Itunes Movie Store.
To go a little crazy, maybe the Media Center.
Updates for MacMini and Laptops at this time will be a simple Tuesday update on Apple's site. I see no reason to have an Special Event for that.
Well if they do the announcement late on Monday 12 in Cupertino that will be Tuesday in Paris (time zone difference is +9) so will comply with the tradition LOL  :p :D

My first question is if the Mac Pro offers less of a performance increase than it first appeared, (for the time being at least), would Apple use this as an argument against a Conroe Tower?
I'm still behind Apple increasing their product lines, (Conroe Tower, 13" MBP, 15 & 17" MBs), and they have effectively done just this with taking teir consumer iMac offering from 2 standard models to 4. Can we expect more of the same in the future?
Roll on September 12th and beyond.

Sheesh, Apple couldn't even spring for one of those audio splitters so they could each connect a pair of headphones instead of having to share?!?
:)
It's nice that Apple is giving 5% to charity. Hopefully this is the start of a trend with Apple.

Why assume people want to game on the go ? I don't game on the go with my MBA, I usually use it to VPN to work on the go or to do some hobby programming. However, when home, I plug it into my external monitor and I game there. Why wouldn't people with 11" do the same ? Play some WoW/StarCraft/Civilization/Portal/Whatever at home when "docked", unplug and take the laptop on the Go for other tasks they need to do away from home ?If you read my post more carefully you'll understand I was referring to the people who play games on the 11". As far as I'm concerned, working on a laptop with an external monitor plugged in is an exception (rare) and not something common.
Are you guys so short sighted you can't see a lot of us don't have 2 computers ? What's the use when the MBA is capable of everything ?Perhaps you mean it is capable of everything you need it to do. I used to have a laptop as a single computer at my home. It resembled a Christmas tree pretty much - it had an USB optical mouse, a printer, external speakers, a Yamaha keyboard, card reader and power cord plugged in. I was always plugging and unplugging cables whenever I wanted to move it to another place. Thank goodness I did not come to the idea to attach an external monitor to it.

So when is the ACD gonna support thunderbolt?
Likely never. At least by Apple. That is old school tech that they want you to replace.

Six months isn't a long time, so I guess I could wait until then. It'd be better if it supported Verizon from the start, though. :(

Intel doesn't have a problem "dealing with ATI". The problem is that the integrated graphics in Sandy Bridge are inside the CPU, so if you put an alternative chipset with integrated graphics you're paying for stuff that you don't use, and the whole point of integrated graphics is to reduce costs.
Also, NVIDIA is prohibited by Intel to make new chipsets for Intel CPUs that have an integrated memory controller.
Thank you.

Seems unfair to kill someone for robbery. Yes they're breaking the law, but only deserve a prison sentence. Do you really really think someone should be shot and killed for attempting to steal a few laptops and smash a few windows? If you do then man you have issues.

But then again, these people would rather force everyone to pony up the dough rather than take a hit to their lifestyles.
To borrow a phrase, if you (they) don't like it, leave.
As someone pointed out in another thread, about half of colonial Americans sided with the British. After the revolution, they didn't get to split America into those who remained loyal to the British crown and those who did not. A society moves as a whole, obeys laws as a whole, or it is not a society at all.

Innocent until proven guilty ... what happend to that? You cant just claim 'Apple has a centralized database with all your location information' when the only thing that is know is that it is stored locally on your device.
Well it's a good thing that's not what I claimed, isn't it then?
Just claiming a stupid thing and say it is true until you prove it's wrong does not work. There is no evidence whatsoever that it is stored somewhere else.
Did you even read the post I was responding to? I made no claim other than it is impossible to say whether or not the data is stored somewhere else unless you have some sort of evidence to suggest that it isn't. Since it's on an Apple (a company that's all about data collection) device and the data itself isn't particularly useful stored locally, it's not unreasonable to guess that it is indeed being stored somewhere else.

couldn't apple develop something into itunes that lets you watch while it is downloading? is this possible?
You can watch while downloading.
I was able to begin about 5 minutes into download -- barely enough time to get the snacks.

Ok so in other words you DON'T need a Core 2 Duo to run Leopard, right?
Hell no, Leopard will run on G4s, G5s, Core Duos, Core 2 Duos, maybe even the old G3s but we'll have to wait and see on that one.
